The Challenge
The American Advertising Awards Gala celebrates the best creative work in the region, but each year requires a new visual identity that captures attention, energizes the local creative community, and drives ticket sales and participation.
For the 2026 gala, the organization wanted a theme that felt bold, recognizable, and theatrical. The goal was to create a campaign that felt immersive and culturally relevant, something that would resonate with the creative industry while elevating the event experience. We needed to build anticipation from entry submissions through the awards night itself.
The Strategy
At the time of development, anticipation around the upcoming film adaptation of Wicked was dominating pop culture. Its instantly recognizable visual language, iconic color palette, and theatrical typography provided the perfect creative springboard.
Rather than simply referencing the source material, the goal was to reinterpret its aesthetic through the lens of the advertising industry. The identity draws inspiration from the look and feel of the film’s promotional materials while introducing elements that merge the two worlds.
The resulting concept, WickAAAd, layers multiple meanings into a single mark. The triple “A” references the acronym of the American Advertising Awards, while the phonetic play transforms Wicked into Wick-Ad, a nod to the cultural inspiration, the organization itself, and ultimately the idea of celebrating “wicked good” advertising.
A Brand Ecosystem
Inspired by the theatrical posters and promotional graphics for the film Wicked, the event creative incorporates the dramatic typography, iconic color story, along with dramatic effects and lighting.
Each deliverable was designed to evoke the dramatic tone while still feeling fresh, fun, and graphic forward.

Reflection
This project demonstrates how cultural inspiration can be translated into a full campaign system. By building a visual identity rooted in storytelling, the WickAAAd concept extended beyond a single logo into an immersive brand experience connecting promotional marketing, print design, and the live event environment.
